Waste Management

Converting Wet Waste to Vermicompost

In India, half the waste produced by households is wet waste, destined for landfills. Likewise, the vast quantities of floral offerings from places of worship end up polluting water bodies and posing health risks.

Yet, these underutilised resources hold tremendous potential. Sri Sri Rural Development Program (SSRDP), under The Art of Living's guidance, is unlocking this potential for a cleaner and healthier environment. Waste separation facilities and management plants at major places of worship and in cities have been set up across India. Furthermore, unemployed youth are well trained in the operation of waste management machinery, empowering them to become environmental entrepreneurs. It's a compelling transformation in the making.

The Art of Living has helped build 18 waste management plants across temples, dargahs, vegetable markets and municipal corporations that collectively process 11.5 lakh kg of waste every year - preventing water pollution on a large scale.
